The StairGuard Bluetooth Interlock System is an active safety device designed to prevent maintenance personnel and crew from falling when maintenance stairs are prematurely removed from an aircraft door. The system consists of two main components communicating via a secure, short-range Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocol: 1) Stair Unit (Beacon): A ruggedized, battery-powered beacon securely attached to the top platform of the mobile stairs; and 2) Cabin Unit (Scanner): A small unit placed on the aircraft inside the doorway.
